What We Do

Responsible Investing

We implement Responsible Investing principles firstly because we believe that the use of ESG factors has positive effects on the risk and return of investments and secondly because the use of RI principles in managing investments can help to achieve ESG goals which are worthy of achievement in their own right, and which are also in the best interests of long-term investors.

Responsible Investing

Responsible Investing

KBIGI has a long-standing commitment to Responsible Investing going back to the early 1980s, when we started working with our clients to construct portfolios that exclude companies engaged in certain controversial activities.

Over time, we have strengthened and deepened our approach to Responsible Investing to the extent that consideration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria is now a key factor in stock selection and fully integrated into all our Investment decisions.

We strongly believe that this leads to better long-term investment outcomes for our clients.

We engage constructively with the management of companies through direct conversations, collaborative initiatives with other investors and industry groups where it is merited as well as active use of our proxy voting. We are committed to sharing with our clients our insights on responsible investing and (importantly) to report to them on the ESG Impact of their investments.

We also are members of or signatories to industry initiatives and organisations such as the Ceres Investor Network on Climate Risk, the UN PRI, the CDP, Climate Action 100+ and the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change.

Responsible Investing Team

Responsible Investing Team

Our Responsible Investing Committee has responsibility for all aspects of Responsible Investing, including philosophy, policies, operations, service providers, Active Ownership and new RI products.

Impact Investing and SDGs

Impact Investing and SDGs

Impact is the measurable, beneficial social or environmental effect an investment generates alongside its financial return. We calculate what percentage of a portfolio’s revenue is contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Engagement

Engagement

We engage with companies for many reasons, but we particularly focus on those who are laggards with regard to climate change and diversity.

Proxy Voting

Proxy Voting

We vote at more than 1000 annual company meetings worldwide, casting our votes in the best interests of clients and based on a pre-agreed set of policy guidelines which are reviewed annually.

Exclusions

Exclusions

We do not invest in companies involved with controversial weapons, tobacco, large-scale coal-mining or coal-fired electricity generation, or which are in serious breach of the Principles of the United Nations Global Compact.
